Sharna Bremner (Winner)

Sharna BremnerName: Sharna Bremner

City: Salaya, Thailand (hometown: Adelaide)

Occupation: University student

Twitter: @sharnajb

Blog(s): sharnajb.blogspot.com

Bio:

I am a 26 year old “mature age” university student, currently undertaking a Bachelor of Development Studies and on exchange in Thailand. My goal in life is hopefully not too unattainable. I would like to be the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for toilets. That’s right, toilets. The fact that 2.6 billion people worldwide are without access to adequate sanitation is something I find unacceptable. Sure, it’s an unusual goal, but I’m an unusual person.

Why I want to be an outreach blogger:

I believe that a position as an Outreach Blogger would give me an opportunity to put my passion to good use and not only give a voice to those in need. Being selected as an Outreach Blogger would not only give me the opportunity to help others, but would also give me the chance to gain invaluable experience, something that would help me to pursue a career in the Development field.

So why should ActionAid choose me instead of one of the other fantastic nominees? We all share similar qualities such as being passionate, compassionate and outgoing. We’re all worthy of the position but I am not afraid of tackling the uncomfortable issues, such as the global sanitation crisis. In fact, I can usually manage to slip something about toilets into almost any conversation. So please, help me to share the message with the rest of the world, and give my friends a break from all the toilet talk!

To Sharna, and whoever else this may concern!

I am sending my full support to you for the TOTO Blogging position! I think through your profile, you have said it al… Encompassing your passion for, and willingness to go where so many others would not…………
I believe you are a more than capable candidate for this position, with the opportunity to open the eyes of many, and share you knowledge and passion about this subject.. You will not only be able to reach out to older people, but also to younger generations…. Your age is on your side, as you will be able to broaden the awareness of the global sanitation crisis………..

I would wish you luck, but I honestly think you will not need it– I am sure you, as a young, knowledgeable and commited person are able to make this happen yourself….

    Love and best wishes x

Again with the toilets! You’re more than worthy of the Outreach Blogger ‘crown’. Good luck with your challenges and balancing all that uni work. – As a very clever girl once said to me (I think her name was Sharna Bremner?) “Sanitation, its no wee matter.” Much love. xx

    Hey Sharna!

You have stolen the words out of my mouth for reasons why you truely deserve to the role of Outreach Blogger.

Sharna; you have the ability to really express your passion towards everything from the most important issues to the very smallest details when it comes to dealing with poverty and developmental problems in our world today. Not only are you dedicated and passionate about such topics, you’re very eager to expand your knowledge and really throw yourself into the problems head on for first-hand experience and a greater understanding. Your compassion and dedication in second-to-none.

I really hope you get this role as I cannot think of someone as deserving or better-suited to be the one and only Outreach Blogger. You have my full support alllllll the wayyyy!

Missing your random toilet facts :) xoxo

Congrats on the shortlisting Sharna! You absolutely 100% deserve it and moreover would make perfect use of the position. Your ability to break down complex and often intangible realities with well placed humour, a deft hand for seriousness and all around clever writing make you the ideal candidate to inspire and recruit others through a blog.

    sharna.

without taking the piss, can you also include festival toliets within your scope. after a recent visit to byron bay music festival i realised that the luxury of a tidy pee is something we def. take for granted here in australia.

all the very best. sending you much support!
