Bio:
Although I was born in England, my father’s work has seen him based throughout Europe and the Middle East. I have therefore been gifted many opportunities to travel and have frequently been challenged and intrigued by other nations’ cultures and ideologies. Moving to Australia to undertake my Arts degree at Melbourne University has allowed me to combine my two greatest passions; literature and travel. I hope to prove myself a worthy competitor for the position of ActionAid outreach blogger!
Why I want to be an outreach blogger:
My work in Tanzania opened my eyes to the impact that one individual can make in the fight against poverty. When I asked the founder of the Pilgrim’s House orphanage, Mama Lin, what had brought her to Africa, she related a dream of Jesus standing in a river holding a child in His arms. She told me that He had asked for her help to protect these innocents. I was astounded that this sole instance had inspired her to do so much good for children who would otherwise be without hope.
The opportunity offered by ActionAid would enable me to lend my skills to have a genuine impact on tackling poverty. The power of words has always been a source of inspiration to me; I would be honoured to provide a voice for individuals without the rights simply taken for granted in the developed world. The opportunities I have been given to travel and make positive contributions to communities in need have been the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Looking at the work of people like Mama Lin, I feel humbled but also inspired at what people can achieve with enough heart and determination to make a difference.

WOW!
Emily, you are such an amazing person!
Growing up in Africa, I have seen a lot of people in Aid work get disillusioned when confronted with real life problems and realizing exactly how deep the problem lies within the community… but you, having been there and still being able to retain your enthusiasm is sign that you will definitely be able to make a difference.
Good Luck!
