Bio:
Born in Malaysia but grew up in Perth, moved to Sydney at 19, went backpacking at 24 for 5 years, grew up a hell of a lot, came back and fell into web design by shear dumb luck, helped out in Sri Lanka after the tsunami, then 2 years in Kenya volunteering with street kids, back home now with own business and many plans to help out in Kenya and elsewhere in various ways. Motto: Live, love, learn.
Why I want to be an outreach blogger:
The one thing I learnt above all else while in Sri Lanka and Kenya: The main difference between young people of those communities and our own is education and communication infrastructure.
Provide the young with educational opportunities, plus a way to communicate to and hear from others around the world to expand and utilise their knowledge, and they will be able to improve themselves and their own communities with less and less assistance from us.
As such, this outreach blogger project provides a core element to achieve part of this objective. As we all know, technology exists that allows anyone from anywhere in the world to chat, write, share videos, and even work with someone else from anywhere else in the world. I know, I do it every day to earn an income!
And as this technology is becoming more and more available to developing communities around the world, they really only lack the one thing: Some expert knowledge and guidance on “how” to use it. I would love to share that with them.
These young people are the future for their own communities, not us. Our job is merely to help provide them with the means and opportunities.
