New TOTO Project – Tech4Change Blog Day

Now that the lucky outreach bloggers have been announced, Project TOTO is keen as a bean for you to share your skills with us in a new social media experiment – ActionAid’s Tech4Change Blog Day.

Unfortunately we don’t have the capacity to send all our supporters overseas to one of our program countries. But, from our outreach blogger search we know that you are a talented bunch; articulate, cyber-literate and passionate about ending poverty.

We need you!

With that in mind, ActionAid wants YOU to sign up as a TOTO soldier in the fight against poverty and in the exciting search for new solutions. Our battle tactic in this ancient war? Death to poverty by social media.

Social media and new technologies are widely recognised as changing the way Australians communicate and socialise with each other and with friends, family and colleagues around the world.

But what if this phenomenon could also be used to make the world a better place? What if social media holds the key to one of the greatest challenges of our generation – ending poverty.

How you can get involved

On Wednesday April the 28th, ActionAid asks Australians to participate in Tech4Change Blog Day by writing blog posts that discuss ways in which new technology and social media are helping to break cycles of poverty.

Even if you don’t have a blog, you can spread the word via a tweet or Facebook update. To get involved, simply follow the steps below.

Why it matters

ActionAid believes social media is a powerful vehicle for social change. By publicly discussing poverty and generating creative ideas about alleviating it, individuals amplify the voices of the poor and encourage solidarity with them. This builds networks of shared concern that can advocate powerfully for political, legal and social change.

So join the brigade and help crush poverty, online, one post at a time!

Taking part is easy

Another fantastic initiative from the team at Action Aid Australia! I know I’ll be getting behind it and encouraging everyone I know to support it too.
